Seriously Important Federal Budget Choices: What's Next?
Why:
Because Congress couldn’t agree on a replacement, indiscriminate cuts affecting many millions of people were launched on March 1. Fearing a government shut-down on March 27, Congress will make minimal changes in these cuts in final spending decisions for this year. And the House and Senate are about to pass dramatically different Budget Resolutions for next year. The way these differences are resolved will have tremendous consequences for vital safety net programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP/food stamps. Decisions made in the next few months can open up opportunities for people to get jobs or slam the door shut. And if Congress fails to act, automatic cuts will keep happening.
